Working Hours China
What would the immigration stop if the Mexican peso was at par with the dollar?

The current exchange rate is approx. 1 USD is equivalent to 11 weights. You have to follow the money. Migrant workers work for less here (USA), because the money goes back to Mexico is multiplied by a factor of 11. Of course it is difficult, however, I would work for $ 5 an hour, knowing that at home I have 55. Trade with China, works the same way as we send a dollar to China. Dollar that then turns to 8 dollars China. It's all economics!

really working conditions in some countries are better than they are here ... For example, you can not be dismissed simply because I like you. The payment is generally lower because these countries are poor. Cost of living many times are the same or worse than more expensive, but the basic necessities are cheaper than those here. If you are fired are given a separation equal pay to a salary years in most countries south of the border .... I do not. If you put the weight on a par with the dollar it would have immigration situation much lower over all.

Yep, China Cat Blue loves three things - The Grateful Dead, the blues, and smooth jazz, which they interpret in their own unique way. Formed in the Bay area in the late 90's, the group started out as, not surprisingly, a Grateful Dead cover band. But in a surfeit of like minded bands, it was tough to make a living. Wanting more, the group decided to head down the road of smooth jazz, where there w...

Working in China:

$180

After a quarter of a century of market reform, China has become the workshop of the world and the leading growth engine of the global economy. Its immense labor force accounts for some twenty-nine per cent of the world's total labor pool but all too little is known about Chinese labor beyond the image of workers toiling under appalling sweatshop conditions for extremely low wages. Working in China introduces the lived experiences of labor in a wide range of occupations and work settings. The chapters of this book cover professional employees such as engineers and lawyers, service workers such as bar hostesses, domestic maids and hotel workers, and industrial workers in a variety of factories. The mosaic of human faces, organizational dynamics and workers' voices presented in the book reflect the complexity of changes and challenges taking place in the Chinese workplace today.Based on extraordinary and thorough field research, this book will have a wide readership at undergraduate level and beyond, appealing to students and scholars from a myriad of disciplines including Chinese studies, labor studies, sociology and political economy.

View the Table of Contents .nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; Read the Introduction . Original and insightful. Not Workingis a powerful book, connecting theories of the state, citizenship, and globalization with first rate ethnography. It is an instant classic and will remain the definitive book on immigrant women and welfare reform for some time. — Pierrette Hondagneu-Sotelo, author ofDom?stica: Immigrant Workers Cleaning and Caring in the Shadows of Affluence A smart, engaging, and groundbreaking study that exposes the racist underpinnings of welfare reform. A model of stellar scholarship and a must read for anyone seeking to understand poverty in relation to the meaning of American citizenship today. — Arlene Davila, author ofBarrio Dreams: Puerto Ricans, Latinos, and the Neoliberal City This highly significant contribution assures that Latina immigrants will no longer be invisible in scholarly research on welfare reform. This superb ethnography establishes a clear connection to the political, legal, and economic realities that is needed in reassessing the success stories of welfare reform. It should be read by all those concerned with social inequality, poverty, and justice in America. — Mary Romero, author ofMaid in the U.S.A Not Workingis an empirically rich and theoretically sophisticated study of welfare reform's deleterious effects on immigrant Latinas struggling to make a life for themselves and their children. This is an incredibly compelling ethnography. — Sanford F. Schram, author ofAfter Welfare: The Culture of Postindustrial Social Policy Not Workingchronicles the devastating effects of the 1996 welfare reform legislation that ended welfare as we know it. For thosewho now receive public assistance, work means pleading with supervisors for full-time hours, juggling ever-changing work schedules, and shuffling between dead-end jobs that leave one physically and psychically exhausted. Through vivid story-telling and pointed analysis, Not Workingprofiles the day-to-day struggles of Mexican immigrant women in the Los Angeles area, showing the increased vulnerability they face in the welfare office and labor market. The new work first policies now enacted impose time limits and mandate work requirements for those receiving public assistance, yet fail to offer real job training or needed childcare options, ultimately causing many families to fall deeper below the poverty line. Not Workingshows that the new welfare-to-work regime has produced tremendous instability and insecurity for these women and their children. Moreover, the authors argue that the new politics of welfare enable greater infringements of rights and liberty for many of America's most vulnerable and constitute a crucial component of the broader assault on American citizenship. In short, the new welfare is not working.

3m / Musical Comedy A hilarious new musical, China - The Whole Enchilada is three men singing, dancing, and irreverently marching their way through four thousand years of Chinese history- in less than two hours with an intermission. The show dares to tackle racism, human rights, genocide, and the birth of the fortune cookie. Selected participant of the 2008 New York International Fringe Festival. China walks a fine line between sheer, ridiculous inanity and some serious truths about that big country over there, the one just past Japan. It''s a tricky balancing act -- and a fascinating one. - Orlando Sentinal In this musical version of the history of China, Brown has collaborated with song writer and composer Paul Mirkovich to create two of the funniest hours I have spent in a theatre in a couple of years. - EntertainingU.com
