EchoStar is the largest manufacturer of satellite TV receiver and set top boxes in the United States. Their receiver models are packed with innovative features such as True2way, Slingloaded and MOCA. This company has been designing and developing satellite receivers and set top boxes since 1980. Headquarter of this technology company is located in Meridian, Colorado and it has been founded by Charlie Ergen.
Some Historical Facts about EchoStar
The company was formerly known to be the parent company of Dish Network, until the unit got separated from its parent company in the year 2007. In that same year, EchoStar purchased yet another technology company named Sling Media. In the year 1982, the company applied the license for using a direct broadcast satellite or DBS from the Federal Communications Commission. After few years EchoStar managed to get an orbital slot in 119 degrees west longitude. Now the company is having more then 11 satellites to broadcast satellite TV programs.
The company launched its first satellite, EchoStar 1 on December 28, 1995 and has been built by Lockheed Martin. EchoStar acquired the broadcasting assets of MCI and ASkyB Worldcom. Both these companies were a part of News Corporation. This purchase has allowed EchoStar to get twenty-eight transponder licenses in 110 degree west longitude. This acquisition allowed the company to offer multi-satellite system called dish 500. With the help of this system they become capable of showcasing more then 500 channels to its viewers.

EchoStar has three main departments namely EchoStar Technologies, EchoStar Satellite Service and EchoStar International.
EchoStar Technologies – This part of EchoStar deals mainly with the design and development of the set top boxes and satellite receivers. The company has employed more then two thousand software and hardware engineers as well as sales and support staff. The acquisition of Sling Media has made this company a leading player in its field. Sling Media is the inventor of "Placeshifting" technology. The acquisition of Sling Media has allowed EchoStar to incorporate some its SlingLoaded Technologies on to its products.
