Overcoming the problems of Kitchen
Problem # 1: Lots of space and high ceilings.
While large kitchens have all the space you ever need, dividing it up into manageable pieces is difficult. "Fortunately, I had a client who believes in having a single focal point in the room, which in this case, is the cloak of limestone chapel in the range we have created, "says Dave Smith of the HDH Cabinets and Design.
Smith used several strategies, including the creation of a separate pantry off the main kitchen space with a second dishwasher, a second large copper farm sink, copper countertops, a wine cooler, pantry and cabinets which served as a built-in display area for the client extensive collection of crystal, china and antique linens. He kept most of the cabinets below countertop level to create open spaces with a clear line of sight to the next room, he says. The large, 72-inch refrigerator was covered with wood panels to reduce their impact game. Triple-stack crown molding with black accents joined the cabinets to the high ceilings. The discreet island kitchen with a black finish provide an important visual break, too.
Problem # 2: No room for an island, and in short space of storage.
What do you do when you really want an island with seating, and floor plan does not allow it? Create a thin asymmetric island protruding from the living area a little more beyond the rest of the cabinets.
"My client wanted lots of details on the cabinets, so everyone, we added embellishments such as columns, cornices and extra molding to make it look more like furniture independently, "says Smith. He used an eggshell finish to unify all cabinets toile wallpaper combined with a cheerful cobalt blue and white. The adjusted proportions of the room were compensated by the different heights of the upper cabinets.
"But the most impressive part of this kitchen is the huge variety of materials that were used in the wall separating the living room from the kitchen. It was an archway, buffet, curio cabinet all in one, "says Smith.
Problem # 3: A very long, very open space.
"The real challenge for this kitchen was create a flowing space while maintaining a sense of separation between the kitchen and adjacent rooms, "says Smith.
"First, no feel compelled to make the cabinets attached to the architecture of the room. So the cabinets do not go to ceiling cabinets and windows and do not exclude the important accessories. Second, resist the temptation to make the island too big. "
Details make the special space, like popping up the height of the cell and range, repeating circular windows, using light wood cabinets, creating an elegant wooden bell and the coating and the use of furniture, as accents.
Problem # 4: An area of very small kitchen which is also a default gateway and dining room.
"It's the first room visible on entering the house, so it needs to be a quagmire, "says Smith. Cooking as these can be fixed with a room divider dark cherry cabinets which incorporates the beams and columns, fitted with drawers for pots, pans and trays. From the kitchen island can be designed with contrast white furniture outside, with drawing inserted shelf spices and fluted legs as embellishments. This type of design can be opened in a dining area.
"This design is very contemporary, very modern," says Smith. "The combination of darkness, contemporary cabinets with the unusual river rock backsplash and granite countertops really makes the kitchen look more large. "
