China and India on board with the Copenhagen Agreement

Top of the environment and climate negotiators from China and India asked the United Nations Framework Convention Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), on Tuesday to include them among the nearly 200 countries listed at the top of the Copenhagen agreement.

The agreement, a declaration of non-binding three pages, was the only thing out of the failed attempt of world government was the Copenhagen summit last December.

The deal highlights climate change as one of the great challenges of our time and calls to limit global temperature increase to less than two degrees Celsius. It called on developed countries to increase funding from the U.S. 30 billion U.S. dollars of new and additional resources for 2012 and for the world to raise U.S. dollars U.S. 100 billion per year in 2020 to help developing countries mitigate carbon emissions.

China and India are the last two large economies to attach its name to the agreement, but are among the most important because of the role are forecast to play, that continue to fuel its growth in coming years.

"After careful consideration, India has agreed to the levy of this kind," Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh said India's Parliament Tuesday, Reuters reported. "We believe our decision to be listed reflects the role India played in shaping the Copenhagen agreement. This will strengthen our negotiating position on climate change. "

In a similar move yesterday, Su Wei Beijing sent a statement of a sentence of UNFCCC confirming the willingness of China to be named among the countries to "take note" of the Copenhagen agreement.

"I am writing to confirm that the Secretariat can proceed to include China in the list of Parties included in the preamble of the Copenhagen agreement, "he said.

While the actual impact of China and India to sign the agreement are minimal due to the difficulty of establishing a legally binding agreement, it does provide the Copenhagen agreement, a little more credibility, and could help put everyone on the same page for real progress being made in Mexico in 2010 or, more likely, South Africa in 2011.
